L’arbitre is a collection of style and fashion minded observers, creators, admirers and provocateurs.
The name comes from the title ”arbiter elegantiarum” - a person who prescribes, rules on, or is a recognized authority on matters of social behavior and taste. It was a position Gaius Petronius held in Nero’ court in ancient Rome. This, however, is actually a misnomer because we absolutely hate rules, especially when it comes to fashion and think that telling others how to dress in one of its most egregious sins.
We do however profess to have an eye for what looks good and certainly can recommend and suggest a few things here and there. What’s important is what feels and looks good. And after all, we are observers. So we often learn just as much or even more than we suggest.
So in essence all of you and everyone who visits us is also an “arbiter.” So let us know what you see and how you dress, and what you like.
